Full Itinerary

Day 1

MANDALAY

Transfer:

PLEASE NOTE: The itinerary for this cruise is subject to change. We ask you to be flexible once you book this cruise as the areas you travel to are very remote.
The afternoon trip begins with a drive to Mahamuni Pagoda which house one of the most significant Buddha Images in Myanmar. The Buddha Image was brought in by King Bodawpaya himself in the 18th century.
Finishing the trip here, we continue to Amarapura, another old capital. We stop at a silk and cotton weaving houses to see the artisans at work.
Finish the day with a sunset boat trip on Taungthaman Lake (subject to the water level) by U Bein Bridge.

Day 2

KYAUK-MYOUNG

Continue upstream until we reach Kyauk-myoung. Disembark from the ship. We begin with a journey through the workshop that makes water pots. Witness all the process from A to Z of this traditional occupation. Afternoon will be spent sailing upstream toward the third defile of the river.

Day 3

KHANYAT

Today, make a stop at Khan-nyat village. Like other typical ones, the village is home to many monasteries. The town also has a small museum and we will stop at a respected former head teacher’s house. Afterward, we make our way up to the Tigyang Pagoda on the top of the hill. 

Day 4

KATHA

Katha is an enchanting and unchanging town since the colonial time and from the George Orwell’s Burmese Days. We will visit some significant sites such as the Irrawaddy Flotilla Company’s ships’ bells and old British station. Along the way back we will make a visit to a Elephant Logging camp. 

Day 5

SAIL UPSTREAM KYUNT DAW ISLAND

Sailing through the day until we reach Kyun Daw Island Village. Here you can find the countless tiny pagoda on the limited stretch of land. 

Day 6

2ND DEFILE OF IRRAWADDY

As we continue sailing today, we will reach the 2nd Defile with its impressive gorges and cliff towering and seemingly tipping over the river. As we pass this nature’s majestic creation we turn downstream to make our way back. 

Day 7

TAGAUNG

Today, as we reach Tagaung, a walking tour will ensue. See the remain of the old fort, a nat shrine and the archaeological site. 

Day 8

MINGUN

Transfer:

During breakfast, the ship will sail to Mingun for a morning excursion. Leave the ship, you will walk to the world’s largest unfinished stupa built by King Bodawpaya. Then continue to Mingun Bell which is one of the world’s largest and functional bells. Return back on board afterward for lunch. Continue to Mingun Senior home that was founded by the Irrawaddy Flotilla Company in the 30s.
Afternoon trip consists of a visit to Sagaing – the heart of the Buddhism in the country. Reach the top of Sagaing Hill and visit Soon U Ponya Monastery to have a panoramic view of the region.

Day 9

 AVA - YANDABO

The shore excursion today begins with a trip to Ava – former capital city of an ancient dynasty. start the morning by a trip to Bagaya Monastery – an all teak monastery and are lacquered in black paint.
Afternoon, you will reach Yandabo. Well known for its historical significance as the place where the peace treaty for the first Anglo-Burmese war was signed. Nowadays, it is mostly regarded for it clay water pots of which materials source from the Irrawaddy River itself. You can experience making one with the instruction of our guide and the workers.

Day 10

BAGAN

By the morning, we will reach Bagan as the ship moor on the riverside. Afternoon trip will consist of a careful selection of over 3,000 monuments in the UNESCO World Heritage Site – Bagan.
